Missouri Driver’s License Point System

The state of Missouri maintains a point system for anyone with a valid driver’s license. Under this system, points are placed against your driver’s license if you are convicted of certain motor vehicle violations. When you are convicted of a traffic violation, while your vehicle was in motion, the department receives notice and adds points to your driving record. You can lose your driving privileges when you accumulate too many points. The number of points you receive depends on the conviction.

PARTIAL LIST OF POINT ACCUMULATION:

Violation

# Points

Operating a Vehicle with a Suspended
or Revoked Driver License

As you accumulate points, you risk suspension of your driver’s license. If you accumulate a total of 4 points in 12 months, the department will send you a point accumulation advisory. If you accumulate a total of 8 or more points in 18 months, your driving privileges will be suspended.

POINT PENALTIES:

At the end of your driving suspension you will need to pay the Department of Revenue a reinstatement fee as well as follow the reinstatement requirements. When your driving privileges are reinstated, the department reduces your total points to 4. Every year you drive without getting new points on your record,
the points will be reduced.
