German immigrant Arnold Krekel founded O'Fallon, Missouri. He bought property in what is now downtown O'Fallon and granted the North Missouri Railroad a right-of-way through his property. He laid out the town of O'Fallon in 1885 and chose the name to honor John O'Fallon, the railroad's first director. The town was officially established in 1856 and incorporated in 1912.
