St. Peters, Missouri is 22 beautiful and restful square miles of St. Charles County. This suburban community is situated just north of the Missouri River and west of the Mississippi River, hence the term "Mid River" that is used to describe the area. St. Peters is a very family-oriented community just 20 minutes from St. Louis. It offers a slower-paced lifestyle with low crime in well-kept neighborhoods that enjoy easy access to the attractions and nightlife of St. Louis.
The earliest settlers of St. Peters, Missouri were French traders who arrived in the late 1700s. St. Peters was formally incorporated in 1910 and became a city in 1959. Interstate 70, which bisects the community, and infrastructure improvements brought residential, industrial and commercial growth to St. Peters. I-70 provides St. Peters residents easy access to the nearby communities of O'Fallon, St. Charles and Florissant. Additional nearby highways include State Highway 94, State Highway 370 and State Highway 79.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there were 52,420 residents in St. Peters, MO in 2007. There were 20,000 households in the city, with an average household size of 2.6 people. Families made up 69 percent of the households. Educational services and healthcare are the leading industries.
St. Peters, Missouri was named the "60th Best Place to Live" in 2008 by Money Magazine. The publication cited the town's low cost of living, the Rec-Plex community facility with its Olympic-sized swimming pools and NHL-sized ice rinks, and the small-town friendly atmosphere of St. Peters as the reasons for the honor.
Public school education is provided by the Fort Zumwalt School District, the St. Charles School District and the Francis Howell School District. In St. Peters, MO, 91 percent of people 25 years of age or older had at least graduated from high school and 30 percent held a bachelor's degree or higher. Post-secondary education is provided by St. Charles Community College, University of Missouri - St. Louis, Webster University, Sanford-Brown College and Maryville University in St. Louis.
The Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital, an acute care hospital, has served St. Peters since 1980. SSM St. Joseph Health Center, located in historic downtown St. Charles, also serves St. Peters, MO.
The St. Peters Police Department provides law enforcement services to the city. The City of St. Peters' Police Department publishes a detailed annual report each year that includes crime statistics and highlights the department's commitment to providing outstanding police services. The St. Peters Municipal Court, Judicial Circuit 11 is located at One St. Peters Centre Blvd, St. Peters, MO 63376. The jurisdiction of the Municipal Court extends to all cases involving violations of the municipal code or other ordinances of the city. County offenses are handled at the St. Charles County Courthouse, which is located at 300 N. 2nd Street, St. Charles, MO 63301.
