University City, Missouri
University City, Missouri, a 5.9-square-mile suburb of St. Louis, is located in St. Louis County. University City was founded by publisher Edward Gardner Lewis. In the late 1800s, the area that is now University City, Missouri was primarily farms and small farming communities until Lewis moved his publishing business to the area in 1903. The buildings built by Lewis, including the current City Hall, were used for publishing magazines such as Woman's Magazine and Woman's Farm Journal. University City was incorporated in 1906 and Lewis served as its first mayor.
Located in the center of the St. Louis Metropolitan Area, the City of University City borders the cities of St. Louis, Wellston, Clayton, Ladue, Olivette, Overland, Vinita Terrace, Hanley Hills and Pagedale. Other nearby major population areas include Florissant to the north, St. Charles and St. Peters to the northwest.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, University City had a population of 32,885 residents in 2007. There were 15,000 households in University City, with an average household size of 2.1 people. Families made up 54 percent of the households. Service industries, including professional, scientific, management, administrative, educational, health and social services, account for more than 50 percent of the occupations available in University City, MO. Other occupations include construction, manufacturing, retail, finance, and arts, entertainment, recreation and accommodation.
University City, MO is home to a number of excellent public schools managed by the University City School District. Over 90 percent of University City's residents 25 years of age and older had at least graduated from high school and 48 percent had a bachelor's degree or higher. University City is also home to Washington University.

University in Bloom, a volunteer gardening program, has been around for more than 20 years, creating and maintaining hundreds of beautiful gardens. University City also boasts more than 30,000 environmentally-friendly trees and an extensive urban park system comprised of approximately 255 acres. University City, MO has warm summers and brisk winters, allowing residents to enjoy the seasonal changes.
University City, Missouri is served by 111 miles of streets, with Interstate 170 located in the western portion of the city. MetroLink provides connections to the region’s public transit system. Most commercial development is located on two major thoroughfares -- Olive Street Road and Delmar Boulevard. The Olive Business District begins at the western edge of the city near Interstate 170. Olive Street is famous for ethnic groceries, retail stores and small professional offices. The University City Loop on Delmar Boulevard is located in a six-block area near Washington University. The six blocks feature entertainment with 10 live music stages and a shopping district with more than 140 boutiques.
There are many first class medical centers within a short drive: St Luke's Hospital - Pediatric Care, Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Forest Park Hospital, Shriners Hospital For Children, Saint Louis University Hospital, and SSM St. Mary’s Health Center. SSM operates numerous facilities in this region, with locations in St. Louis, St. Charles, and Fenton, MO.
The Municipal Court of University City has jurisdiction to hear and determine all cases under the charter and ordinances of the city. The courthouse is located at 6801 Delmar Blvd, University City, MO 63130. Appeals arising from City Court judgments are heard at the Circuit Court of St. Louis County.
