Workers’ Compensation Insurance

Employers maintain workers’ compensation insurance to cover employees who have been injured on the job. Workers’ compensation insurance pays benefits to employees who are unable to work because of their injuries, and can help cover bills and other expenses until you recover as fully as possible.

Negotiating the workers’ compensation bureaucracy can be confusing, frustrating, and time-consuming without the aid of an expert. Injured St. Louis area workers can benefit from our workers’ compensation lawyers’ intimate familiarity with Missouri and Illinois workers’ compensation law. We can help you file the appropriate paperwork quickly and efficiently so that you receive the full benefits to which you are entitled under the law.

Benefits from Workers’ Compensation

Workers’ compensation laws in Missouri entitle injured workers to receive three kinds of benefits.

  • First, employees are entitled to all appropriate medical treatment for any work-related injury at the expense of either the employer or the insurer.
  • Second, workers are entitled to tax-free “temporary total disability” compensation amounting to two-thirds of their average weekly wage during the time they are judged by a doctor to be unable to work.
  • Third, employees are entitled to permanent disability compensation if they still suffer effects from the injury, after recovering as fully as possible, that leave them either partially or totally disabled.

It is important to remember that you have limited time to file for benefits – usually you must file within 30 days of your injury in order to be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits. In some cases, your employer or the insurance company may encourage you to agree to a settlement. You should always consult our workers’ compensation lawyers before agreeing to any settlement.  Our records show that you are likely to get better benefits if you do.
